Lifesavers: My Favourite Study Tools

Here I will be sharing some of my favourite study tools that I used during my university time so far. These tools are readily available, easy to use, and insanely useful. They can make confusing topics much easier to understand and learn. I hope you can implement some of these study tools in your future learning!

#1 Anki/ Quizlet

Both flashcard-making tools gained immense popularity over the few years. They are insanely useful for subjects where memorization is heavy. I remember first using Anki for my microbiology exam in second year, after struggling with the first midterm. While creating these flashcards, I realized I had basically learned most of the material. Therefore, using spaced repetition (throughout multiple days) memorizing these flashcards was a piece of cake. I still remember getting my grade back and scoring a 90, it was a very satisfying feeling. It’s also important to note that making these flashcards yourself, instead of an AI generative tool, is much more beneficial in memory retention as well. You can also add pictures with both websites and even make quizzes to test yourself (with Quizlet) which is also very beneficial in memory retention.

#2 Promofocus.io

As I previously mentioned in my earlier post, I recently started using the pomodoro method after struggling with staying focused during long periods of study time and found it immensely beneficial. Essentially, this website works by putting timers for you (where you study for 25 minutes and are very focused with no distractions whatsoever and a 5-minute break after). For one of my Metabolism exams last semesters, I was so unmotivated and kept procrastinating my studying. Although, I found that this technique helped me stop procrastinating and just go. I sometimes struggle with procrastination and focusing for long periods of time. Although, this technique helped me a lot and will most likely help you as well.

#3 Notion

This will always be one of my favourite websites. Its an all in one life saver! With it, you can stay organized, create notes, make to do lists, create flashcards, collaborate with others, etc. It’s basically your little study workshop where you can customize it to whatever you like. I use this for all my classes to stay focused and organized. Instead of carrying many notebooks, its all in one (which makes it a lot easier to access as well).

There are many websites that you can use, ut these must be my top 3 that I recommend every student to use at least once.
